On July 3 a Brandenburg federal land delegation arrived in Kaliningrad on a working visit. Among the German territories, this region is one of the oldest partners of the Kaliningrad region. The first agreements on cooperation between the Kaliningrad region and the government of the Brandenburg land were concluded more than a quarter of a century ago.
Plans for further interaction were discussed at a meeting of Alexander Rolbinov, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Kaliningrad Region and Stefan Ludwig, Minister of Justice, European Affairs and Consumer Rights Protection of the Brandenburg Federal State.
According to the vice-premier, the agro-industrial complex, tourism, science and education can become the priority areas for further joint work.
The meeting participants also touched upon the issue of the possible resumption of passenger rail service between Kaliningrad and Berlin.
Following the meeting, the representatives of the Brandenburg government confirmed their interest in developing partnership with the Kaliningrad region.
"European-Russian cooperation is unthinkable without the participation of the Kaliningrad region", Stefan Ludwig said. - 26 years ago we signed an agreement with the Kaliningrad region, and this agreement is constantly complemented with concrete projects, we are constantly exchanging ideas and proposals. This work is supported by our parliaments: the Kaliningrad Regional Duma and the Landtag of Brandenburg".
For reference. Germany is among the five largest trading partners of the Kaliningrad region, occupying more than ten percent of the total volume of foreign economic activity of the region. According to the customs statistics of the Kaliningrad regional customs, the foreign trade turnover of goods of the Kaliningrad region with Germany in 2017 amounted to 715.8 million US dollars and increased by 2016 by almost 14%.
