The dynamic growth of trade and business relations between Russia and China suggests that in the near future the volume of mutual trade between the countries will reach 400 billion US dollars. The General Director of the Kaliningrad Region Development Corporation JSC Andrey Tolmachev disclosed the corresponding point of view. He is currently in Liaoning Province and takes part in a session on interregional investment cooperation between China and Russia.
Liaoning Province is a region in the northeast of China. The population of the province is about 43 million people. Liaoning is a major industrial center, producing steel, aluminum, chemical and petrochemical products, automobiles, buses, airplanes, locomotives, ships, electronics, electrical engineering, industrial equipment, medicines, ready-made clothing, textiles, food and building materials. The province has developed maritime, railway and aviation transport, the financial sector, energy, retail, logistics, tourism, telecommunications and information technology. Andrei Tolmachev noted that enterprises in the region are interested in developing joint projects with Russian partners, including the Kaliningrad region.
“Russia and China are already working in the field of investment cooperation. The result of this cooperation is, among other things, industrial parks that are being created in Russia with the participation of Chinese capital. I can give an example of Tatarstan and the Greenwood Industrial Park project. China is actively creating sites in the Republic of Belarus (Great Stone Industrial Park). There is also experience in creating Russian industrial clusters in China.
We are also interested in cooperation in the forms of creating joint industrial sites. It seems to me that it will be most relevant to build this cooperation with an emphasis on the development of SMEs, high-tech and knowledge-intensive enterprises,” Andrey Tolmachev commented.
The second day of the session ended today. It was entirely devoted to presentations of Russian regions and industrial parks. Andrey Tolmachev delivered a report “on the investment environment and policy of the Kaliningrad region".
Following the results of his speech, the head of the JSC “KRDC” stressed that the benefits of the free customs zone for Chinese companies look quite attractive. For this reason, the region is considered as a possible base for the localization of production in order to further release products to the markets closest to our region. “And this is not only the Russian market,” Andrei Tolmachev said.
“China has a unique set of tools for us to create infrastructure facilities in the tourism sector, so we are interested in applying their vision, including when creating a year-round resort “White Dune”, in order to form a tourist product for the future tourist as correctly as possible,” the head of the Corporation outlined another area of promising cooperation.
On Saturday, on the final day of the session, it is planned to sign a memorandum with Liaoning International Economic Cooperation Corporation LLC. The document includes a willingness to work together in the field of investment, logistics, trade, construction of exhibition areas and joint events.
